In 2016, the European Union and Japan challenged in the WTO tax regimes created to stimulate Brazil’s domestic industry. Some of them were created during Dilma Rousseff’s government. One of the targets of the indictment is the Inova-Auto program, which reduces taxes on cars produced with more national parts. The complaint is that it would be anti-competitive to establish different tax regimes for products made in Brazil. This would make it difficult to import this type of items into the country.
